Today is a Good Day!!

I can always find something, in ANY circumstance, to be thankful. I have an amazing, beautiful, healthy family; the sun warms my skin, lights my way and heals my body; the beauty in nature; the list can go on forever. With moving into an rv temporarily, garden season being here, building, graduations and general life, I have become the busiest person I know. Multitasking is my friend.

So a few updates on my gardening and life in general. We finally sold our house, AND made a profit....go figure. Our oldest daughter just graduated college with 2 degrees in psychology and criminology. Our youngest daughter is graduating high school a year early and leaving to go to college soon.  We haven't broke ground on the new house, but the plans are there. We're just waiting for our other land and cabin to sell first. Garden-wise...well let's just say I am behind. I have this HUGE area tilled, and I have planted quite a bit so far, but it's far from being completely hoed and planted. I am hoping we can get a tractor this year with a tiller for it, so next year I won't need to hoe nearly as much. With my health limitations I can only hoe maybe a row or two per day, and that's a big MAYBE. So far I have planted: radishes, carrots, lettuce, red and green cabbages, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, okra, potatoes and one row of onions. Literally right after I got the first few rows planted we had like 11 days straight of horrid rain showers. We had about an inch of water standing on top of the grass, and with having red clay soil, it took quite a few more days for that to be absorbed. In other words,  most of what I planted washed on down to the creek. I did have a few radishes sprout and growing, not one carrot, I might have broccoli and cauliflower, the lettuce is starting to sprout along with a couple plants of spinach, but the red and green cabbages have exploded in growth!! The okra, taters and onions were planted later, so they are all doing well so far. the okra sprouted and is growing daily, the onions are starting to sprout, and the potatoes, when the gopher leaves them buried, are starting to sprout as well.

Still left to plant are my tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, 2 more rows of onions, gourds, melons, corn, pea and beans (which may wait until a fall harvest planting) cucumbers and sunflowers....along with tobacco and marigolds for bug deterrents. If everything grows and produces.....I will be one very happy camper!! Not to mention the fact that my food bill will be reduced dramatically (what makes my husband a happy camper)!

We're adding an on-demand hot water system to our garage, to run the washer and so we can add a shower in that bathroom. The RV has a great working hot water heater, but it's only 6...yes SIX gallons. We have 4 people, 3 women with long hair, living here and a second shower with unlimited hot water would be amazing for us. Plus washing our clothes in warmer water wouldn't hurt my feelings any. I've learned something about line drying cloths lately......humidity is the enemy of the sun's and wind's drying power. I hung clothes on the line Monday and it took all day, over night and the next morning to get them dry.....the humidity was so heavy it could be seen hanging from the trees.  Hopefully soon we can add a gas dryer to our mix, but eh if not, I am happy hanging on the line.

We moved the grapevines again. But this time they weren't shocked at all. They are out by the back fence waiting for their new permanent lines to be strung for their vine tendrils. The avocados I sprouted are surviving in the greenhouse, I lost most of the greenhouse plants over winter when we had an ice storm come through and it blew the roof off, freezing everything. The roof is being repaired and all my houseplants have been moved into the greenhouse. Pretty much all the houseplants went into a deep shock, but they are starting to come back to life. Phil the pothos seems to be thriving in there in spite of everything else looking shabby.

While I am positive I am leaving out some updates, it's stopped raining, so i can go back to the garden to work again....

Until later.....Have fun playing in the dirt!!
Peace
